MDN-6, a Possible Therapeutic Candidate for Multidrug-Resistant and Extensively Drug-Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: The rise of antibiotic-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains has accelerated the hunt for novel drugs (TB). Objectives: This study identified a compound with strong anti-TB efficacy against several resistant M. from chemical library naphthoquinone derivatives. Methods: was designated as MDN-6 (methyl-1,4-bis(2-(diethylamino)ethoxy)-2-naphthoate). Results: It significantly inhibited all tested strains, including 24 clinically isolated strains. minimum inhibitory concentrations were between 0.02 and 25 g/mL. also had partially synergistic activity extensively drug-resistant when coupled rifampicin streptomycin. Additionally, demonstrated superior post-antibiotic effect over isoniazid exhibited comparable marinum kansasii. Besides antimicrobial effect, 50% lethal dosage (LD50) 279.1 mg/kg in female BALB/c mice. Conclusions: is promising therapeutic candidate tuberculosis. However, further investigation necessary to elucidate action mechanism assess drug’s vivo potential.

multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis

multidrug-resistant (mdr) and extensively drug-resistant (xdr) tuberculosis (tb) are increasing globally. treatment options for these patients are very limited. although treatment of these patients with standardized regimen is associated with high mortality and morbidity, rational usage of new drugs might be promising. in this study we will review epidemiology of xdr-tb and tdr-tb in iran and t...

Multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis (TB) can usually be treated with a course of four standard, or first-line, anti-TB drugs. If these are misused or mismanaged (that is, when drugs are taken in the wrong combination, are fewer than those prescribed, or are taken in insufficient doses or not at the proper time), multidrugresistant TB (MDR-TB) can develop. MDR-TB is a form of disease resistant to the most important an...

Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis and Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis.

The continuing spread of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most urgent and difficult challenges facing global TB control. Patients who are infected with strains resistant to isoniazid and rifampicin, called multidrug-resistant (MDR) TB, are practically incurable by standard first-line treatment. In 2012, there were approximately 450,000 new cases and 170,000 deaths because of MDR-T...

Multidrug- and Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, Germany

We evaluated risk factors and treatment outcomes associated with multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis (TB) in Germany in 2004-2006. In 177 (4%) of 4,557 culture-positive TB cases, Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates were identified as MDR TB; an additional 7 (0.15%) met criteria for XDR TB. Of these 184 patients, 148 (80%) were born in countries of the for...

Multidrug and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis.

The emergence of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) compromises global tuberculosis control. The incidence of multidrug-resistant strains (MDR) defined as resistant to the two main antituberculosis drugs, rifampicin and isoniazid, was raised in the 1990s. Ten percent of these strains have developed additional resistance to the main second-line antituberculosis drugs: fluoroquinolones and aminogly...
